The Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

Completed in the early 15th century, the perpendicular style church was built by the Abbots of the neighbouring abbey. Of interest is the ceiling, with tudor painting of uninhibited angels and the stained galls from around 1200 AD. Around the altar floor, tiles are from the 12th Century lady chapel of the abbey.

Open daily in summer.

Muchelney Pottery- John Leach

John Leach, oldest grandson of Bernard Leach and son of David Leach, continues the family tradition in the tranquil setting of his own pottery. He works with one other master potter, Nick Rees, and a student – hand throwing and wood firing a range of stoneware pots.

Open all year, Monday to Saturday: 9am - 1pm, 2pm – 5pm.

Muchelney Abbey

It was once a wealthy Benedictine Abbey and the second oldest religious foundation in Somerset., but as part of the dissolution the abbey’s principal buildings were demolished by Henry VIII in 1538. Visitors can still see the clearly laid out foundations of the abbey, parts of the richly decorated cloister walk and thatched monks’ lavatory- the only one of its kind in Britain. The 16th century abbots’ house remains intact with its magnificent rooms, and site finds are on display illustrating monastic life.

Open daily 1st April to 30th September from 10am – 6pm and 10-am to 5pm in October.
